Contemporary Nursing Practice | Do My Homework

Introduction: Purpose and Thesis Statement

Purpose:

The main purpose of this study is the evaluation of emerging trends in the field of nursing. There is increasing focus on evidence based and patent centered care. Equally, there is increasing differentiation of tasks for ADN and BSN nurses. The relevance of collaboration in enhancing care delivery is also explored.

Thesis statement:

For nurses to deliver quality care, they need to align their skills and competencies with emerging needs and competencies in the field of nursing.

Q1

The nursing practice have changed over time. The nurses are being required to offer services from different locations besides their fixed locations. Equally they are required to treat patients with high level of social cultural diversity (Whitney2018). Nurses are thus required to be more culturally competent.  Many nurses are also being required to work past their retirement due to shortage of nurses in many health facilities. The adoption of information technology in the field of nursing have also transformed the manner in which records are documented in health facilities. The adoption of patient centered care have also enhanced the efficacy of service delivery resulting in realization of the desired patient health outcomes.  These new developments have changed the scope of practice where health facilities are seeking nurses who are conversant with information communication technology and high level of cultural competence

Q2

Competency refers to the ability of individuals to carry out tasks in the right manner. It is the expected level of performance as defined by the American Nurses Association. The differentiated practice competencies of associate degree in nursing (AND) and Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN) have some similarities and differences. The key difference between ADN and BSN nurses is that ADN nurses are technical nurses while BSN nurses are professional nurses. The ADN nurses are mainly trained on clinical skills while the BSN nurses emphases is on issues such as leadership, management, nursing research as well as clinical skills (Whitney, 2018). The BSN nurse thus has holistic training in his or her field. Nevertheless, the key similarity is that both groups of nurses are trained on clinical skills. Both programs provides the nurses that enables them to deliver care in a manner that meets the generally accepted standards. Many health facilities emphasizes on having the BSN trained nurses due to their wider level of training.  They are expected to demonstrate best practice in the course of service delivery.  It is worth noting that ADN provides individuals with an opportunity to join practice in entry level whole BSN provides them entry into higher levels of nursing especially when such nurses have adequate experience.

Q3

In a health care setting, some roles are carried by both the ADN and the BSN nurses, while some roles are exclusively set for the BSN nurses. For instance, in a health setting where the nurses are attending to patients suffering from dementia, the ADN nurses are tasked with roles such as performance of traditional nursing duties such as assessments, completion of procedures in taking care of the patients and medical charting (Nursing Licensure, 2019). They ensures that the right procedures are followed in taking care of the patients suffering from dementia and that any medications prescribed to them are administered as per the prescriptions. These roles would also be played by the BSN nurses. In spite of this, there are some tasks that would be purely a reserve of the BSN nurses. For instance, the BSN nurses may be tasked with nurse educator roles in the facility, departmental coordination and management roles. The ADBN nurses may not be tasked with carrying out of these duties since their training is limited to technical activities rather than any administrative work.   The demarcation of service delivery ensures that only individuals with the right skills that are involved in the execution of particular tasks in health facilities

Q4

Evidence based practice is very critical in the field of nursing.  It involves the unification of research with clinical expertise something that promotes individualization of care (Stevens, 2019). It creates a link between research and practice enhancing the efficacy of health care delivery. The adoption of EBP has led to the inclusion of multiple stakeholders in the process of care delivery. Policy makers are critical in ensuring that health facilities follows the best practice in the process of care delivery. It has also led to development of new models of care delivery in nursing. For instance, the ACE star model of transforming knowledge was adopted to help in linking research outcomes with knowledge (Whitney2018). Instead of having the clinicians engage in research from the scratch every time, they gain access to summary of findings on various issues. The research is transformed into guidelines that informs the process of service delivery.

The academic preparation of RN‐BSN nurse supports the application of evidence based practice in the field of nursing.  The registered nurses (RN) delivers care to patients using validated interventions. In the Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN), which such registered nurses go through, they are trained on evidence based practice. Evidence based practice enables them to pinpoint the best problem solving approaches in clinical practice in order to deliver effective patient centered care.

Q5

In contemporary health care delivery, nurses collaborate with interdisciplinary teams in multiple ways. For instance, through the use of ICT they easily share information with the top management and patients. Through patient centered care, they collaborate with such patients and share information and ideas with them. Linking with the policy makers equally ensures that they have good understanding of the best practices. Such collaboration results in safer and better health outcomes. For instance, by developing good relations with the patient, patients feel free to share all information that may result to enhanced health outcomes for the patient (Whitney2018). When nurses in health facilities collaborates with each other communication is enhanced and the efficacy of their operations is also enhanced. Stress levels among nurses also reduce when they share knowledge and have food interpersonal relations.

Conclusion

From the above study, it is evident that evident nursing has emerged as a good approach to care delivery. Nurses using EBP relies on validated methods of service delivery. From the study, it is also clear that BSN nursing is gaining precedence over ADN because besides the technical skills, it equally equips nurses with administrative and research skills. Collaboration among nurses enhances information sharing and service delivery.
